I have always tried to be the best parent I could by giving my children the best childhood possible.
This will of course mean different things to different people, but to me it means my children being truly content and having high self esteem.
And all of a sudden it's hit me, this parenthood stuff.
The level of responsibility and devotion that goes into raising well adjusted human beings has started to overwhelm me and I am often left wondering at the end of the day if I get any of it right.
I wonder if I have given them enough love, laughter, stimulation, encouragement, food, positivity, fulfillment or value.
You see, I really do love my children and as a SAHM I believe it's my job to give them everything they need and when at the end if the day I think back to how the day has gone, I feel extremely disheartened if I have failed them by shouting or not doing enough with them.
I have had many a nights of feeling disheartened since Baby's arrival as I have not been able to give my all to Toddler which I was once upon a time able to.
This left Toddler extremely frustrated and her tantrums went through the roof and at the time I felt lost as common practices of time outs were just not making a difference.
I spoke to my new lovely Health Visitor about this who recommended me onto a Parenting course run by my local Sure Start center, which we have been on for the past 5 weeks, and it has made a World of difference
to our family life and especially to Toddlers.
The Parenting course's main philosophy is building relationships through play and how to do so in the best way.
At first I was defensive and thought "I know how to play with my child, what a load of old crap!". And as the course went on I was a bit more like "ahhh, I see!".
The course taught and made me aware of Play techniques such as giving undivided attention for at least 10 minutes a day, and when playing how to allow the child to lead by not asking any questions during play (which is much harder then it sounds) which in turn gives the child freedom of exploration.
Much of the course is about Positive Parenting which I love the concept of, but admit that putting into practice is not as easy as it sounds.
The Parenting course has definitely made me a better Parent which is something I will always continue to work on as I wish to give my children the best childhood possible.

Return of the Mother
It's been a shameful 4 months since baby's arrival and I have only just returned to blogging.
Shameful indeed (shakes head with lowered eyes)
However, I do have a healthy beautiful daughter to show for my absense. Born May 18th by c-section weighing an enormous 8lb 8oz, life is defenilty not as we once knew it!

To my Babies
Found: http://spinningbabies.simplwebsite.com/real-stories/273-one-mothers-two-pretty-tough-and-thouroughly-examined-birth-stories
The Beginning – Rabindranath Tagore
“WHERE have I come from, where did you discover me?” the baby asked its mother.
She answered half crying, half laughing, and clasping the baby to her breast,– “You were hidden in my heart as its desire, my darling.
You were in the dolls of my childhood’s games; and when with clay I made the image of my god every morning, I made and unmade you then.
You were enshrined with our household deity, in his worship I worshipped you.
In all my hopes and my loves, in my life, in the life of my mother you have lived.
In the lap of the deathless Spirit who rules our home you have been nursed for ages.
When in girlhood my heart was opening its petals, you hovered as a fragrance about it.
Your tender softness bloomed in my youthful limbs, like a glow in the sky before the sunrise.
Heaven’s first darling, twin-born with the morning light, you have floated down the stream of the world’s life, and at last you have stranded on my heart.
As I gaze on your face, mystery overwhelms me; you who belong to all have become mine.
For fear of losing you I hold you tight to my breast. What magic has snared the world’s treasure in these slender arms of mine?”

While Toddler is away...
Have packed off Toddler to her Nan's so I can get some rest whilst waiting for the Baby to put in appearance.
So while Toddler is away Hubby and I have been able to spend some lovely time together which has not really happened since Toddler's arrival.
Yesterday we went out for a nice meal accompanied by a trip to the Cinema - together! Whoo hoo! We watched Iron Man2, his choice and no I wouldn't recommend it as it was over 2 hours long and not the best story line, still we had a very nice time together.
Later that evening we got to watch more stuff, stuff on the T.V would you believe it.
And the best bit off all me thinks are the nice uninterrupted chats and cuddles we get to have.

Due Date Came & Went
Baby's due date silently came and went without any fuss. I had only one phone call to ask if I was OK (which I am grateful for) and spent the majority of the day very uneventfully in bed surfing the net.
My only source of excitement yesterday was that I had a wonderful session of reflexology using Clary Sage essential oil, allowing me and hour of complete downtime which gave me a chance to concentrate on my body, and I think I may have had mild contractions or strong Braxton Hicks.
The pain was in my lower back coming and going, and was accompanied by the usual tummy tightenings that I've been having for the past month.
Still nothing concrete enough to say I am actually in any kind of labour, so I shall continue to potter around the house until Baby decides it's time to put in appearance.

Pregnancy & Toddlerhood
I am not coping to well with the combination of being due next week and having a high energetic 2 year old. I'm sure that since Toddler turned 2 her tantrums have increased and that amount of stimulation she needs has also uped.
Yesterday Hubby and I took her to the park for over 2 hours in the morning and on the way home she fell asleep in the car, and because she is taking so long to fall asleep at bedtime (9ish seems to be the norm these days) we are cutting her day time naps down from 2 hours to 1.
I woke her after 1 hour had passed, fed her lunch and her afternoon was then filled with the following planned activities (planned works better at the minute otherwise she turns into a feral child):
Am I expecting to much of her and this really is normal 2 year old/Toddler behaviour?

- Plays with Dog and watches me prepare dinner

All I want to do...
but just do not have the energy/organisation to do it:
- Write
- Journal Photograph
- Play with the Dog more
- Cook Chocolate Cakes with Toddler
- Finish reading books I start and enjoy
- Enjoy Hubby more
- Pamper myself more at Home
- Do more Arts & Crafts with Toddler
- Keep in touch with Friends
- Day Dream
39 Weeks + 2
With given due date in sight I am giddy with excitement that I shall partly be getting my body back (I'd like to breastfeed) and most of all be meeting my Baby!
Yippee!!!
I'm hoping that I shan't go to over due, however I don't really have many labour symptoms apart from niggly back pains and annoying strong Braxton Hicks that do take my breath away and wake me up in the night, which I think are mainly brought on due to my taking of Raspberry Tea Leaf Tablets.
Oh and for the last couple of days I'm eating as if there's no tomorrow.
I'm also very bored.
I'm bored of sitting around the house dreaming of aimless tasks to give myself to do (the housework) and going for walks has lost it's appeal as the waddle factor truly has taken over giving passerby's something to humor at no matter what speed I go.
Fingers crossed that Labour will run smoothly

Introducing...
our ever lovable mischievous, shoe destroying, going through the bins family Dog.
We have had him for almost 1 year and he has given us so much joy. Admittedly it's not always been plain sailing especially with housebreaking him and training him on his walks, however we have all bonded so well especially Toddler and him that his arrival in the family is firmly cemented.

Happy 2nd Birthday!
Happy Birthday my Dear Daughter.
Yes I am late in posting but not when we celebrated your 2nd Birthday.
On your Birthday Pappa made you a delicious Chocolate Peppermint birthday cake starting at around 6 in the morning so it would be baked for when you woke, whilst I hurriedly huffed and puffed at blowing and arranging Pink Balloons all around the kitchen for you.
When you awoke and stumbled downstairs to greet us with your just out of bed crazy hair and squinty morning eyes, you were so happy to see us and so happy to see your Balloons! You immediately ran over to the balloons pulling them off the wall and began playing with them.
I gave you your breakfast of Weetabix while Pappa took the dog for a walk, and on his return Pappa dressed you and we sat at the table and you opened your Birthday cards and Presents which you loved doing and were able to do a great deal on your own! Very impressed :)
We took you to the temple for your Birthday Blessings and made our way to Thomas Land at Drayton Manor Park.
You had such fun! I was not able to join you on the rides so Pappa sat with you on the Helicopter ride, the Car ride and the Carasole.
Next you ran riot at the indoor soft play, and after enjoyed seeing animals at the Zoo section.
Before we knew it, it was home time. You slept in the car and little at home before your Aunties and Uncles descended all bearing lovely Birthday Presents for you!
We cut your yummy Birthday cake where you LOVED blowing out your Birthday candles and you made Pappa relight them a few times!
After a very long wonderful day you finally got to fall asleep at around 10:30.
Happy Birthday Toddler, we Love you very much

I feel Good
I'm at week 36 having the usual niggley pains that comes with Braxton Hicks and Baby bouncing around on my pelvis bones whilst trying to get into position.
And you know what?
I feel good.
Last night and tonight Hubby was able to take care of Toddler on arrival leaving me to have a soak in the bath, lather myself with luscious body cream, light some candles in the living room and watch some films all on my own.
Ahhhh...Sheer Bliss :)
I feel hopeful about the future, our 5th year Wedding Anniversary is this summer and I've been day dreaming about Hubby romancing me with a lovely meal and then dancing the night away looking oh so glamorous in my prebaby size 8 special emerald green silk dress.
I think about how Toddler and Baby will be the best of friends with each other, playing together, getting into all kinds of mischief and of course fighting with each other.
I'm looking forward to the wonderful summer we are going to have this year with lots of lovely sunshine.
I'm Happy :)

Packing Up
Finally it has dawned on me that I am going to have an actual baby and I need to do stuff.
Stuff like get my hospital bag packed, get the baby's bag packed & pack a bag for Toddler in case she needs to stay a night away while I'm labouring in hospital.
We are also in the process of revamping the house for the new arrival. Nothing major just a clean lick of paint over Toddler's beautiful wall art and opening up the hatch to the loft so we can actually get into it and use it as a storage area.
Also need to go through Toddler's newborn clothing and work out what we can reuse.
I can do all this in 7 weeks can't I?
eeekkkkkk!

All is Forgiven
Toddler was in a foul mood yesterday.
Took her out to playgroup in the morning where she played beautifully until singing time where she decided to vent out at other innocent toddlers by kicking and hitting (luckily no contact was made), so I decided to end play time and take her home.
Whilst opening the car door I set her down on the pavement and she decides that it would be oh so cleaver to run across the road and run down the pavement.
NEVER has she done this before and it shocked me. I managed to get her back and force her into the car seat to lots of wails and crys of 'Go away Mama' & 'Hit Mama'.
She falls asleep all of 5 minutes and then refuses lunch or her regular nap.
I thankfully had a doctors appointment that afternoon and escaped by leaving her with hubby who was at home that day. He filled me in of all the fun he had with her and I wisely keep my thoughts of 'thank God I didn't have to deal with her' to myself.
This morning she wakes at 6AM playing with my nose, talking to herself and radiates me with the biggest smile I have ever seen.
My heart melts.

Happy 23rd Month Day!
Dear Toddler,
Today you are 23 months old, and it is the last time I will be aging you in months as next month you will be 2 years old!
I want to tell you how much I love you and love you for all your amazing ways:
I love how you concentrate on a story and how you can become emotionally involved by either giggling away at what humors you, or how you can become concerned for a character in trouble.
I love how you tell people about Mario & Bowser from Super Mario World from the Wii.
I love how your sense of humor is developing.
I love how you tell me you 'need cuddle'.
I love when we ask you if your a baby your swift answer is 'no I not baby, dolly baby'.
I love how you play and share with your friends.
I love how your interested in cooking.
I love how you eat my kisses.
I love how you point your index finger in the air and wave it at me whilst saying 'don't mamma don't' with your eyebrows raised and head tilted to the side.
I love that your mine, I still look at you and can't believe I made you. Your so beautiful and clever. I'm so glad you choose me and your Pappa.
We love you very much.

Opening up to friends
Recently a couple of friends have spoken to me about thier own experiances of PND.
One who has briefly meantioned her difficulties in bonding with her baby who is now 18 months old.
I really felt for her.
I had always seen the love she had for her baby but had noticed that somtimes her choices of care were not somthing I would do. Other people who also knew her commented to me how they found the new mum less then maternal.
At the time I would pop in and see her but I didn't pick up on anything.
I now feel like I failed her as a friend.
Not sure where I'm going with this post.

Comedic Toddler
Toddler thinks she's funny.
Whilst eating dinner at the table conversation went something like this:
Toddler: Poo.
Me: Have you done a Poo?
Toddler: No. Poo. Hahahaha
Me: What about Poo?
Toddler: Eat Poo. Hahahahaha
Me: Eat Poo? You want to eat Poo?
Toddler: Yeh, eat Poo Hahahahaha
I have no idea where that came from!
She also gets me to sing the CBeebies Happy Birthday song to the dog (which can be understood), to the Chocolate cake, to the laptop and to Mario from Super Mario World on the Wii.
All of which she finds hilarious.
Crazy, crazy child!

I've been heard
After 1 and 1/2 years of visiting my GP several times, breaking down at the Health Visitors a couple of times and asking for help from my Midwife who then refereed me to the Mother & Baby Unit at the hospital where I was seen by an incompetent psychologist, my visit back to the Mother & Baby Unit today went well.
The psychologist listened to my greviences and frustrations and has given me a plan to get me to see a CBT therapist at the hospital.
I am so relived that somthing is finally being done.
I have decided not to go on meds right now as I am 31 weeks pregnant and I belive that starting now could effect the baby so I have asked for CBT therpy to get me though the rest of the pregancy and once I give birth I can start on meds and continue CBT therapy.
Why did it have to be such a struggle to get to this point? I could have avoided so much suffering.
